Spotlight: Why Eddie and Lynne say the future is hopeful
As we come to the end of the year, we’ve been reflecting on what gives us hope for the future.
For us, that hope looks like real people sitting across from each other, talking honestly about life, purpose, and next steps. It looks like Guides and Planners.
Meet Eddie and Lynne.
Eddie: Purpose in retirement, and a Planner preparing for his future
When Eddie first met his Planner, he could tell this wasn’t going to be a passive relationship.
“He was super motivated about his life plan and the SetPath program,” Eddie shared. “During our weekly calls he created action plans for each life account to crystallize his purpose and move toward his short and long term goals.”
As they walked through his Planner’s “life accounts,” especially career and relationships, something big shifted. With Eddie’s support, his Planner chose to change careers—from independent filmmaker to teaching—a path he enjoys and that offers more stability as he prepares to propose to his girlfriend.
Eddie has seen how much Planners value having a structured, living life plan.
“Their life plan assists them in having more balance, purpose and direction in their lives both now and in the future.”
And SetPath hasn’t only changed Eddie’s Planner—it’s changed Eddie, too.
“Because of SetPath, I’ve been able to have a strong purpose and motivation in my retirement years. It is rewarding to pass along my life experiences and knowledge to the future generations.”
Lynne: “Beautiful humans” and hopeful futures
For Lynne, the most powerful part has been watching her Planners’ intentionality.
“The care and thoughtfulness that has been expressed, their passion to be intentional and take the time to explore – it has been so uplifting and encouraging to know they are impacted and how I’ve also been impacted through knowing them and seeing their progress.”
One Planner came in searching for clarity in her career path, unsure which direction to go. Together, they explored her creativity and passion for art and how that might shape her decisions. Another Planner is completing an accounting internship and, in Lynne’s words, is “rocking it – very dedicated and excellence focused.”
Within just 90 days, Lynne has seen real ownership:
“Really taking ownership of the goals she set for herself and accomplishing them each step of the way – what progress has been made!”
Guiding has stirred something in Lynne, too.
“It has been richly rewarding to get to know such beautiful humans and to walk alongside them for a time… It’s been personally motivating to me to continue revisiting my own life plan and to keep growing and learning.”
If she could talk with a supporter, she’d say:
“These young adults have so much to offer… They are not alone and they need to know that they are supported, cared about, believed in, and cheered on.”
